About Peking University in China
Founded in 1898, Peking University has a long history of academic excellence and was formerly known as the Imperial Capital University. Peking regularly ranks among the top two universities in Mainland China; it is well recognized both nationally and internationally.
Situated in the Haidian District in northwest Beijing, Peking University is renowned for its expansive campuses that are home to some of Beijing’s most prominent gardens. Peking University has a remarkable current record of 46 074 students, of whom a total of 4 400 are international students from 80 countries around the world, dispersed across a number of degree and research programs. In addition to this, a few hundred are added each year to Peking University’s annual list of international students enrolling in Chinese language programs.

The application process
Step 1: Consider the condition
To be able to apply to the school, you need to meet the following criteria:
Applicants must be those who are not Chinese citizens.
– Be healthy, a valid passport.
– Aged 18 years and older.
– Comply with Chinese laws and regulations of Peking University.
– Have diplomas and certificates of the nearest school level.
Step 2: Submit and wait for the application to be processed
After 8 to 10 weeks, from the deadline apply for official admission. You will receive notification of interview attendance or additional documentation request according to your registration process during this time. If you are accepted, PKU will send you an Admission Letter and other related documents.
Step 3: Apply for a Chinese student visa
Successful applicants need to bring their Admission Certificate and their JW201 / 202 to the Chinese Consulate or Embassy to apply for a Student Visa. A study period of 6 months or more is required to be on an X1 visa. Accepted applicants must exchange their X1 visa for a Residence Permit at the Office of International Relations within 30 days of arrival in China. If your study period is less than half a year, you can apply for an X2 visa.
Step 4: Sign up for health insurance
Peking University requires all international students to have health insurance for the duration of their expected study period. Students are required to purchase an Extracurricular Student Comprehensive Plan provided by Ping An insurance company on the date of registration, recognized and recommended by the Ministry of Education of China. Students without valid health insurance will not be enrolled.
On the infrastructure
The campus is located next to the Forbidden City in central Beijing. The town looks like a large park because it has many gardens and Lake Weiming. All buildings and laboratories are built using the latest technologies and modern standards.
On campus, there are more than 200 high scientific and research centers. There are also two large institutions and a large number of laboratories that hold the status of state property.
On the territory of the university, there are restaurants, commercial premises, cafeterias, and sports facilities. For the students, the Palace of Sports was built especially for the 2008 Olympics. The total campus site is 274 hectares.
